Vedha Movie Review

Kannada star hero Shiva Rajkumar’s 125th movie Vedha’s Telugu-dubbed version hit the screens today in Telugu states. Let’s see how the movie is.

Story :

Vedha (Shiva Rajkumar) and his daughter Kanaka (Aditi Sagar) are on a killing spree. They move from one place to another to brutally kill the people who disturbed their happy family. Who are the people and what did they do to Vedha’s family? What happened next? What’s the backstory of Vedha and his family? What happened to Vedha’s wife Pushpa (Ganavi Laxman)? The film has the answers.

Plus Points :

The story is nothing great but what makes it engaging is the narration at places. The action sequences and the slo-mo shots are visually stunning. They are enhanced with wonderful cinematography and interesting score.

Performances by the lead actors are quite impressive. Star hero Shiva Rajkumar delivers an impressive performance. Besides, Aditi Sagar who played the character Kanaka is exceptional. Her performance as a daughter who seeks revenge is extraordinary. She has a few dialogues only, that too in the climax. Her fierce performance is one of the biggest reasons to watch the film.

Pushpa’s character, played by Ganavi Laxman, is also good. Her character is very limited but her scenes played a vital role in making the film a good watch. Her arrogance and bravery are shown in a perfect way, especially in the fight scenes.

The emotional part works out well. The rest of the characters are okay and they justified their roles. The dubbing work is also neat.

Minus Points :

As mentioned above, the story is quite familiar, and audiences have seen this kind of narrative in many old movies. Perhaps, the makers should have added something novel regarding the film’s plot to reduce the monotony. The screenplay is dull in a few places, and the director could have run it at a brisk pace to make the film an engaging experience.

Some of the scenes in both halves need a cut. Some portions become a hurdle to the story. The non-linear screenplay may confuse a few but one who follows the story well will get it clearly. The action sequences are too violent but thanks to the censor board for blurring the scenes, which might disturb a few.

Technical Aspects :

It is the makeup artists who need to be appreciated for their stunning work. They made the actors look very realistic, raw and rustic. The art department did an amazing job by creating the properties that exist in the 1960s and 1980s.

The music director and the cinematographer worked so hard to give their best and made the movie a great experience. Arjun Janya and Swamy Gowda shouldered the film by giving the best output. The Telugu dubbing is also neat.

The director should have concentrated much on the screenplay. Apart from that, the film could have been more impressive if the runtime is crisper. The editing by Deepu could have been better. The production values are neat.

Verdict :

On the whole, Shiva Rajkumar’s Vedha is slow but a passable revenge drama. The leads, their character arcs and their performances make the film a watchable fare. Barring the lengthy runtime and some unnecessary scenes in both halves, you can give the film a watch this weekend.
