Sridevi Shoban Babu Movie Review

Young talent Santosh Shoban has now come up with the film Sridevi Shoban Babu to entertain the audiences. Directed by Prasanth Kumar, the film has Gouri K Kishan as the female lead. The movie hit the screens today and let’s see how it is.

Story :

Sridevi (Gouri K Kishan) is a fashion designer by profession in Hyderabad. One day, she learns the fact that her paternal aunt Kamala (Rohini) humiliated her father (Nagababu). Hence she starts to Araku to seek revenge on her aunt. During this Sridevi meets Shoban Babu (Santosh Shoban) and she falls for him. What happened next? Did Sridevi achieve what she wanted to? How did her life change after meeting Shoban? This forms the crux of the story.

Plus Points :

Santosh Shoban is good in the role of Sridevi Shoban. As a normal village guy, the actor performed with ease. The young actor is also fine with the comedy part. The actor surely has a long way to go if he chooses good scripts.

96 fame Gouri K Kishan, played her part with finesse. She is so lively with her performance and the young actress is so expressive in many scenes. She looked good and was natural in the film. The lead pair’s chemistry is nice. Mahaboob Basha’s one-liners work here and there. Seasoned artists Nagababu and Rohini played their roles nicely.

Minus Points :

The story is ages-old and has been used multiple times in Telugu cinema. One loses interest in the film as soon as the main story is established. Though the plot is beaten to death one, there could have been a lot of difference had the storytelling been engaging. But the narrative in Sridevi Shoban Babu is even more awful.

The movie goes on without any proper flow and is filled with some comedy portions and random songs. These commercial elements are just an add-on and cannot save a poor script. The pale writing is the biggest drawback of this rom-com. The movie also reminds the audience of many superhit Telugu films.

The first half in particular is pretty bland. The movie is pretty boring for the most part and the editing team could have chopped off many unnecessary sequences. At a length of more than two hours, the movie becomes a tedious watch for the viewers.

Technical Aspects :

The music by Kamran is fine and a couple of songs are good on screen. Siddharth’s cinematography is neat. The production values are decent. The editing team should have trimmed the film in both halves.

Coming to director Prasanth Kumar, he did a below-par job with the film. Though the story is routine, a better screenplay could have changed the fate. Sadly neither the narrative nor the commercial aspects click in this rom-com. The second half was comparatively better than the first half.

Verdict :

On the whole, Sridevi Shoban Babu is a boring rom-com that has a pretty routine storyline. Except for a few scenes, nothing works much in this romantic entertainer. Hence the film ends up being a disappointing watch this weekend.
